September 28, 2022

Today, Erik Aadland, CD7 Republican candidate for Congress, announces a formal endorsement from Former Interior Secretary, David Bernhardt.

David Bernhardt served as the 53rd Secretary of the U.S. Department of the Interior.  He was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on April 11, 2019 and took office on the same day.

As Secretary of the Interior, Bernhardt led an agency with more than 70,000 employees who were stewards for 20 percent of the nation’s lands, including national parks, monuments, wildlife refuges and other public lands.

A native of Rifle, Colorado, Bernhardt earned a B.A. in political science with a minor in business administration from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. He graduated with honors from the George Washington University National Law Center and is admitted to various state and federal court bars.

In a statement sent to the Aadland campaign, Secretary Bernhardt stated:

“I am pleased to offer an enthusiastic endorsement of Erik Aadland for Congress. I grew up in Colorado, and I am proud to have taken our mountain spirit and independent values to Washington throughout my career. My experience helps me bear witness to Erik’s strong qualifications and deep conviction towards serving the people of District 7 as a dynamic representative and legislator.

As a former Secretary of the Interior, I understand the importance of getting things done at the highest levels. Erik is a proven leader in domestic and international environments, as both a decorated combat veteran and a businessman in the energy sector. He is willing and able to overcome the partisan division plaguing our government and promote wise policies that will cultivate opportunity and strengthen our security at both the community and national level. Erik Aadland has what it takes to hear his constituents, elevate their concerns to the federal level, and make Colorado a national leader in governance on the strength of his solutions to our problems.”

Erik’s remarks:

“I’m honored to have the endorsement of a Presidential Cabinet-level official and native Coloradan like Secretary Bernhardt. He understands the necessity and effectiveness of servant leadership that rises above partisanship. We agree that the issues we face in public safety, inflation, and energy policy can be resolved though responsive governance that protects the priorities of middle-class families above any ideology. As a Congressman, I will work with people of all parties to create policies that bolster public safety, energize the economy, and empower people to pursue their dreams.”
